ROB HAS BEEN IN THE SPECIALTY COFFEE INDUSTRY FOR OVER 20 YEARS.
In that time, he has managed the coffee departments in some of the industry's most well known companies.
During his journey, Rob has actively engaged the industry as a student, participant, leader and mentor. In 2006 he was the President of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), and also served on the organization's governance, executive, conference and technical standards committees. He has served as both Board President and director of Coffee Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives and livelihoods of coffee farming families.
On the technical side, Rob has focused on standards and training. An active Q grader, he also is one of a handful of people who is licensed to teach and certify for the Q Grading credential, and gives the Q exam regularly both overseas and here in the U.S. He was one of the authors of the SCAA Green Coffee Defect Handbook and was the co-creator of many other industry standards during his tenure on the SCAA Technical Standards committee. Rob is proud to be the designated representative of the United States of America at the coffee subcommittee of the International Standards Organization (ISO).
In 2003, he founded Coffee Solutions, a coffee training, laboratory and consulting company focused exclusively on the coffee industry. Coffee Solutions is the North American training partner for Probat roasters, and has done significant projects for the global coffee industry, including the very successful "Marketing plan for the coffees of El Salvador", implemented by the El Salvadorean government in 2005 and still in use today. Coffee Solutions was sold to InterAmerican in 2010, and its offices now also house the East Coast sales office for InterAmerican Coffee.
A Boston native, he enjoys each of the 4 distinct New England seasons, and the variety of activities they offer, including surfing the icy waters of Cape Cod, golf, hiking, cooking and a never ending obsession with the Boston Red Sox.
