Elan Organic Coffees has been working with Cooperative
Maya Ixil for the last 5 years, bringing in their 4-5
containers of certified organic, shade grown and fair
trade coffee.
The general manager of the Cooperative had the
opportunity to visit Elan Organic for the Producer Party
that was held here in San Diego last May. It was a great
opportunity to introduce him to local San Diego roasters
that purchase Maya Ixil coffee from Elan.

Maya Ixil is situated in the mountains of the tropical
Ixcan region in the department of Quiche, Guatemala. The
Cooperative evolved out of the necessity to improve
coffee prices. In 1998, the group began to
organize and succeeded in gaining organic certification.
It not only improved the quality of life of the farmers,
but it also improved the surrounding environment. Maya
Ixil's socially responsible coffees are grown under
native shade trees, preserving native fruit
and animal species.

Kayd from Elan Organic will be visiting the Cooperative
in early 2008. She will be working with local agronomists, including Elan's
In-Country Rep Ron Hoppenbrouwers, to improve quality at
origin through cupping and discussion.
Please contact Elan Organic Coffees if you are
interested in booking Maya Ixil for 2008.
